Kupwara, Apr 12 (KNO): In a major operation carried out by the joint security forces in north Kashmir's frontier Kupwara district, a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered, aiming to carry out terrorist activities during the forthcoming elections, officials said here on Friday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that based on specific information received by the Border Security Forces (BSF), a joint operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army's 28 RR in Sogam forest led to recovery of huge quantity of arms and ammunition from a terrorist hideout. Officials anticipated that the terrorists were planning to use the war-like stores to carry out terrorist activities during the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Kupwara and Lolab areas. Terming it a major operation, official said that they recovered AK47 rifle, AK Mag 05, AK RDS 1135, 06 UBGL, 05 hand grenades, 23 Chinese hand grenade, 40 MM MGL rounds, Pistol Mag 05, Pistol RDS 65, UBGL hand grenades 13, IED 01, PIKA gun RDS 175, Binoculars 02, PNV sight 01, blanket 01 and Ponchu 01. “This is a major operation, which has delivered a major blow to the nefarious designs of PoJK based terrorist groups who have always aspired to disturb the peace and tranquility in Kashmir Valley,” they said. Meanwhile, a formal case in this regard has been registered in Police Station Sogam and an investigation has been taken up, officials added—(KNO)
